Welcome to the Sunset Festival of Bands home page.
Celebrating our fifth festival in 2013, this competition expands each year, incorporating more bands and hosting more spectators.
On Saturday, October 26, 2013, several high school marching bands from around the Northwest, along with their families and friends, will roll into Sunset Chev Stadium at Sumner High School to compete in the areas of musicianship and performance. More than just for bragging rights and awards, these competing student bands will receive coaching and mentorship from four respected judges in the field. Bands will begin the day performing their field shows for the judges. After the initial critique, each band will take the field again in the afternoon when the competition phase begins and the audience is dazzled!
As an added draw, we are proud to include Special Guest drumline, Seattle Seahawks’ Blue Thunder, who will perform on the field between the morning judging and the afternoon performances/competition. We are honored and thrilled that they are returning to this year’s Sunset Festival of Bands.
New for 2013! This year, for the first time, we are offering three separate divisions:

Division I for groups of 50 or fewer members

Division II for groups of over 50 members

Exhibition for groups who would like to participate but not compete
This fast growing event is hosted by the Sumner Band Parents Association (SBPA). The goal of the SBPA is to support the many endeavors of the Sumner High School Band, helping them raise funds for: travel, the purchase of needed equipment, instruments, music and more.

Under the direction of Joe Carl, the Sumner High School Marching Band has created a legacy of excellence in performance and spirit that is reflected in the many high scores and awards won every year. These student musicians promote and support the Sumner community at each parade, festival and field show competition in which they participate, locally, regionally, nationally, and on occasion, internationally.
